Music Production
Schools Teach You Basics
If you are considering music production
schools make sure you know what
you are looking to get out of it. There are several benefits to
being a graduate of a recording or producers college.
The Obvious
Reasons To Go
Money for this type of work is absolutely
great. If you can come out of this career with
real knowledge you can write your own
ticket and paycheck.
Music is not going anywhere anytime soon so take your time
and get that education the first time around. Don't fool around
and waste time or money in this field.
Once you have enrolled in school be
prepared for some ups and downs. Depending on
your funds you may get a little frustrated. You will be around
a lot of high priced
equipment. There will be times you can't stand it. Your
mind will tire as you dream about owning the best hardware.
The good thing is you will get over it after a week or two.
That's usually the normal time frame for shock to wear off.
What Are The
Benefits?
A degree from taking courses in music
production can be worth millions. If you already
have a natural talent that makes it that much better.
In most cases you will earn extreme amounts of
revenue for your talent. Not to mention the
superstar artist you will meet on occasion.
I find that the main benefit is knowing what equipment
actually works for this industry.
What works for Pop and Rock usually bombs when it comes to
Hip Hop and RnB. Knowing this will save you thousands of
dollars and madd man hours.
Trust me I had to learn it the hard way in the streets. This
cost me three years and over $11,000 worth of
stuff I never really used.
OUCH!
Can You Attend
Recording and Production Schools
Online?
The answer to this question is Yes and NO!
There is no way to substitute being around other producers
and masters of hardware and
software
equipment. Some of the techniques you can learn in
college courses are unmatched by anything. Plus you will
have access to the best of the best. (Items that is)
However, you can look at online videos and learn many things
too. I like searching through Youtube for different things like
this...
Propellerhead Reason
Tutorial - Triggering Instruments On Release
You can literally spend a couple hours on
Youtube and still not see all the videos
they have for producing music. Plus there are hundreds more
uploaded daily.
Even if you go to a great school it won't teach
you everything you need to know about music production. There are
going to be some long hours in and out of the studio. I do my
best work around Three O'Clock in the morning.
Guess what I'm not the only producer that
carries on with these type of hours either. Once you engage you
will see what I mean.
What Schools Do I
Recommend?
Instead of me trying to force some new or old
colleges down your neck let me do this. I challenge you to just
search the Internet for great
places to attend.
