What's The Best Music Production
Software
Professional and Downloadable Programs Are
Not Equal
I find this to be a very hard question to answer as a
producer. I mean, what is the bestmusic production
software? The reason I make
that statement is because of a little word called
choice.
- When it's time for me to produce a track I take account
of everything.
- How much time do I have to produce this track?
- Is this a hip hop track or an RnB song?
- Will this beat have complicated bridges and vamps?
- Am I on my Laptop or my desktop computer?
These are all deciding factors that I outline and ask my
self before engaging in any project creation. If you learn to
do this everytime you will make your life easier as a
producer.
Top Notch
Production Software
Let me say right upfront that this is my
opinion. I have been in numerous studios and the list I'm
about to reveal is a direct result of what I have
seen.
I am in Atlanta and I have been in Tree
Sound, Stankonia (Outkast Studio), Blu Funk, Patch Werk,
Doppler, Soap Box and more.
Along with what I use to make hits and money I have compiled
a list of what I think is the absolute best.
Remember This
Is A Music Production List - NOT RECORDING!
- Propellerhead Reason
- IK Multimedia SampleTank
- IK Multimedia Sonic Synth
- Ableton Live
- Sony Acid
- FL Studio
- Native-Instruments Kontakt
These are the music production software 7
WONDERS OF THE WORLD!
With any of these production pieces you can single handedly
shut down any producer that steps to you with an analog piece
of gear.
WARNING!
Make sure you understand how to really use them. In fact you
better learn to master any one that you choose. If not you can
and will get dealt with from producers who use analog gear
selections like...
- Akai MPC Drum Machines
- Roland Fantom Keyboards
- Yamaha Motif's
- Any Korg Keyboard
One important thing to remember is that the software won't
make you a better producer. Only practice can do that.
Why Is Production
Software So Deadly?
The simple answer to that question is
"It has no boundaries".
Well, that's almost 100% accurate. Software is only limited
by the power of the computer that runs it.
In addition to that the external drive you
choose will have a massive impact on the delivery of files when
you call for them.
I recommend 7200 rpm as a choice.
If you are producing with an Mac Book Pro Laptop or
something equivalent to a Dell XPS PC laptop you are in great
shape. The processing power of these computers are
ridiculous.
See Computer Music
Production for more details.
What Do I
Use?
I won't gas you up. I am going to tell you what I make
thousands of dollars from using. The software I use for
production is not expensive at all and anyone can learn to use
it within a couple of days. They are that easy!
Mastering it is a entirely different subject.
Okay, pushing my hardware out the way for a minute. Here is
what I own when it comes to software production programs.
Propellerhead Reason
4.0
- Yamaha Motif ES refills,
- Roland Fantom X6 refills,
- All of Sonic Reality,
- Korg Triton Extreme Refill
and hundreds of customs. It's a killer sequencing program
too.
FL Studio 7 - What? That's right I
don't need 8 or however many more upgrades they come out
with.
I have Soundfonts and VST's that run within FL Studio that
crush people...
- Sampletank XL - (VST)
- Sonic Synth - (VST)
- Yamaha FM-7 - (VST)
- EMU Proteus 2000 (Soundfonts)
- EMU Mo Phatt (Soundfonts)
- Korg Trinity (Soundfonts)
- Roland JV-2080 (Soundfonts)
These
few pieces of software have made me an astronomical amount of
revenue. I will have them in my arsenal for a very long
time too.
That's the other fantastic thing about software. It won't
get old or get scratches. Keys won't break and I can take them
wherever I want with just a book bag and an external
hardrive.
At the end of the day it will all come down to what you are
most comfortable with. There is not a wrong choice. Pick what
will make you a better producer.
