Selling Music Online Is All About Knowledge

Selling music online is a great way to receive passive income and build wealth.

Everybody wants to make money from something they like doing and as a producer that is exactly what I do.

I take the music I make and place it online for people to buy and I make a bunch of money. There are some key things you need to make this happen though.

First You Need A Website. I'm not just talking about social sites like Myspace, Facebook or Soundclick either. 

Sure my Soundclick page has over 2 MILLION SONG PLAYS and I make thousands of dollars from it.

However, it's not my main source of income.

There are other producers that have 10 Times that amount of plays so I don't focus on websites like this.

It's just extra money for me to pay the mortgage for my 5 Bedroom House in Atlanta. Chump change to me!

What You Need To Start A Website

1. You need a great Domain Name (ie...Music2Money.com)
2. A Website Host -

Unless you have a place to reach your potential clients it will be very hard to make major money. Remember being a part of Myspace or Soundclick has PROS and CONS and the Cons outweigh the Pros. Let's take a look at them!

PROS:

• Community of like minded people.
• Easy to network and find friends or business partners.
• Makes collaborations on work a breeze.
• FREE to join so you save money.

CONS:

• You are competing against millions in the same field as you.
• Hard to brand yourself
• You don't control the direction of your traffic...THEY DO!
• Advertising your page hurts you bad...REALLY BAD!

So what do I mean?

Let me ask you a question? What is more memorable http://www.soundclick.com/marinatedmusiq  or just http://www.MarinatedMusiq.com?

The first option is branding Soundclick NOT ME!

Soundclick's community has a ridiculous amount of members that all do something with music.

It's impossible to brand yourself there because you will always be competing with the next producer that thinks they are hotter than you. Plus they might be!

Myspace has 100 times the members on their site plus you have to deal with all the major producers, singers and rappers. GOOD LUCK!

The majors already have millions of fans and a marketing budget that in is the millions as well.

Remember all you get is 1 simple page on a website made up of hundreds of millions of pages. How is anyone going to find you consistently?

Use the PROS to your advantage because they work. However, you can't really do this unless you have a website to brand yourself.

What If I Can't Build A Website?

Great question! If you have no idea about what it takes to build a website and drive massive amounts of traffic from it to sell your music it's okay.

There is a company out there that focuses on doing just that. As a matter of fact in 2005 I built my first website using them and it still makes me thousands of dollars a month.
