Studio Monitors
Will Make or Break You
Did you know that
studio
monitors can cost you or make you
major money. I'm not kidding around. It is not wise to just buy
any speakers for your setup. You better spend all the coins
when it comes down to your music monitoring.
What Should I
Buy?
Common question here but actually a very
good one. There are
so many brands to choose from that you
can easily get caught up into buying the wrong pair. So do
what I did when I first got started
out.
READ
REVIEWS!
Yes! This will save you a ton
of time and will keep you from blindly looking in stores for a pair of
jbl studio monitors (smiling).
You will learn a
lot about monitors by reading
reviews. Important things
like whether you should buy Nearfield or standard. Should you
invest in bi-amplified or grab a set of passive monitors with
an amp.
Trust me you want to know the answers to these
questions. It means everything to what your music will sound
like outside of your studio.
Expensive Doesn't Mean Better All The
Time
Just because you can afford a great set
of ADAM Audio
doesn't mean they will work for you.
Depending on what type
of music you do and how your studio is setup you may
only need a pair of Mackie or Yamaha speakers to get the job
done.
I personally rock with a set
of Yammy MSP7's with a sub. I mainly produce Hip Hop, RnB and
Pop music so they work for me very well.
Plus my home studio is setup
to receive bounced waves in the back of the room through my
Auralex. (Custom)
This is why it's important to
learn basic stuff like hooking up powered studio monitors or
using passive setups.
Should I Buy Used or New?
Don't wait for a
speaker clearance to purchase your monitors.
If one is in effect and they have what will really work for you
then move on the deal. Otherwise do your homework to see what
is going to fit your style of
music and
then save up
for that pair.
If you get this
WRONG your music will sound like garbage. You
will be left wondering why your mixes are not right and why the
final product sounds like an AM radio project in cars or MP3
players.
WARNING!
If you do not take what I'm
saying to heart you will brand yourself as the person with the
WHACK music that sounds really bad. It will be hard to come out
of that branding once your music hits the Internet or main
stream media.
DO NOT RUSH
